RECEIVER OPTIONS
Personal (Digital) Video Recorder (a.k.a. PVR, DVR, Tivo, Digital Video Recorder, etc.) - A personal video recorder is basically a storage device built into a receiver that allows you to record programming at the touch of a button for future playback, or transfer to one of the new portable DISH Network PocketDish players.
Standard vs. High Definition - Satellite Television services offer truly digital video and sound programming that is unbeatable by off-air or cable services. Standard definition uses the same technology we have been use to over the past several years in digital satellite television. High Definition offers much higher video resolution than standard definition televisions. A high definition receiver and high definition television and high definition programming package is required to benefit from the quality picture quality that high definition has to offer.
MPEG-2 vs MPEG-4 - MPEG-4 is newer technology that allows DISH Network to offer additional channels over the same bandwidth. MPEG-4 receivers are now required to be able to view any and all of the programming DISH Network has to offer.
