How to switch over to a HughesNet VAR Account!

This process is for switching / upgrading from the standard residential HughesNet Ku Band Monthly Service plans to the HughesNet Ku Band VAR Monthly Service plans!

Please make sure you are aware of the comparisons between the HughesNet Residential Platform Accounts and the HughesNet Ku Band VAR Monthly Service plans! Once you ask HughesNet to cancel your existing HughesNet account on the residential platform, you will lose your existing service and you will not be able to get an account on HughesNets’ residential platform again since they stopped allowing new Ku Band accounts on that platform on March 20, 2013!

For that reason and in order to avoid down-time, we strongly recommend using a spare HughesNet HN7000s modem for your new account prior to you cancelling your old account! We also suggest you simply suspend your old account so that you can try out your new account before actually cancelling your old account! We have HughesNet HN7000s modems for sale in our secure online store, Montana Satellite Supply!

In order to switch your HughesNet service from the standard HughesNet Residential Platform to one of our HughesNet Ku Band VAR Monthly Service plans, you will need to have a good, new or used HughesNet HN7000s modem or HughesNet HN7000s modem that is not “locked” to an existing account, and that is no longer tied by the modem serial number to an account in the HughesNet database OR you will need to cancel your existing HughesNet account (without grace period) so that your existing modem can be commissioned to your new account!

If you are not sure if your modem is locked to an account or in the database or not, feel free to contact us with the modem serial number (found in the system information page, or on the back of the modem) and we can check the status for you!

We cannot guaranteed that the status we provide to you is accurate, however we will at least hopefully be able to see if it is “locked” to an account for whatever reason anyway! If the modem is locked to an account or still in the HughesNet Database, you would have to have the original HughesNet account holder contact HughesNet at 866-347-3292 to resolve any account issues and have the modem removed from the database so that it can be used on another account!

You will also need to know what satellite your system is pointing to or want to point to, so that we can hopefully set up your new account to the same satellite! In fact, after we strongly recommend that you check to make sure you are pointed to the satellite and passing signal strength and crosspole tests on it before cancelling your existing service, and / or requesting new service!

If you have a good clear new or used HN7000s or HN7700 Modem…

  1. Check out our HughesNet Ku Band VAR Monthly Service plans!
  2. Once you have selected a plan, Submit our HughesNet VAR Account Request Form so that we can verify that we will be able to provide you with the service plan you want with the equipment you have at your location. There is a $35 – $50 charge for our service, but we will refund it if we are unable to provide you with the account! (unless we find out you are trying to use it from Cuba)
  3. Download, print, fill, sign and return a Credit Card Authorization Form for either “month-to-month” service or “18-month contract” service depending on which you have selected on the account request form so that we will have billing information in place for your new account! You can mail it, fax it, or scan and e-mail it to us, whichever is easier for you! It has to be a good clear copy or they will reject it!
  4. Our HughesNet VAR will review your account request, and, if approved, they will issue a new SAN (Site Account Number) and PIN (Personal ID Number) so that you can use that to commission your modem to the new account!
  5. You can now proceed through the HughesNet HN7000s Modem Commissioning Process to Register your HughesNet HN7000s modem to your new account! (Click here for details on that process!)
  6. After that process is complete, be sure to Force-Range your HughesNet HN7000s modem in order to achieve the best connectivity and performance! (Click here for details on that process!)

If you are switching your service from an active HughesNet account to a HughesNet VAR account…

IMPORTANT: HughesNet normally keeps your modem serial number connected to a closed account for up to 3 months or so following the cancellation request. They do that just in case you decide to re-activate your account to make it easier to bring it back online! However, if they do not remove your modem information from their database, you will not be able to use that modem on your new account for up to 3 months after you closed your account or UNTIL it is removed from the HughesNet database, so following this process to step by step is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!

  1. Check out our HughesNet Ku Band VAR Monthly Service plans!
  2. Once you have selected a plan, contact us to let us know that you are going to be submitting a HughesNet VAR Account Request Form to us for PRE-APPROVAL!
  3. Submit our online HughesNet VAR Account Request Form so that we can verify that we will be able to provide you with the service plan you want with the equipment you have at your location.
  4. There is a $35 – $50 charge for our service, but we will refund it if we are unable to provide you with the account! (unless we find out you are trying to use it from Cuba)
  6. Our HughesNet VAR will review your account request, and once we get approval for your new account, we will let you know accordingly!
  7. You will need to let us know when you will be ready to make the switch, so that we can get you the new SAN (Site Account Number) and PIN (Personal ID Number) for your new account. Keep in mind that if you requested a “month-to-month” account, your new monthly service billing will begin on the day we provide you with your SAN & PIN. If you are requesting an “18-month” contract account, the billing for the new account will NOT begin until you commission your modem to the new account and bring it online!
  8. Once we have provided you with your new SAN & PIN for your new HughesNet VAR account, Contact HughesNet Customer Care’s Billing Department at 866-347-3292 to tell them that you wish to cancel your old account immediately! You MUST MAKE SURE that you explain to them that you want to cancel your account “WITHOUT THE GRACE PERIOD” and you have to BE SURE to tell them that you are going to be using the modem on a different HughesNet account soon, and therefore the modem (serial number) needs to be removed from the HughesNet Database and billing system IMMEDIATELY. (Some HughesNet Customer Care representatives may not even be familiar with this process, however it is an option and can be done!) If they tell you that you can’t switch it to another account, tell them you are switching to a HughesNet VAR account and that you have already confirmed that you can!
  9. Once they are able to pull up that information and process, they will probably suggest to you that the process could take 24 – 48 hours! Keep in mind that once you tell them to cancel your account, you will lose your existing service and you will not be able to get an account on HughesNets’ residential platform again since they stopped allowing new Ku Band accounts on March 20, 2013!
  10. Contact HughesNet Customer Care at 866-347-3292 after several hours or the next day, etc. to check and verify that the account has been cancelled AND that your modem has been removed from the database! Once it has been removed, you can proceed!
  11. You can now proceed through the HughesNet HN7000s Modem Commissioning Process to Register your HughesNet HN7000s modem to your new account! (Click here for details on that process!)
  12. After that process is complete, be sure to Force-Range your HughesNet HN7000s modem in order to achieve the best connectivity and performance! (Click here for details on that process!)

We will be happy to assist you with this process! If you have any questions, please contact us!
