Whenever you are preparing to register / commission a DirecWay or HughesNet Ku Band Modem to a new or existing account, it is a good idea to update the “Satellite Based Commissioning” file a.k.a “SBC File”, prior to running the registration / commissioning process. In fact, you may not be able to lock onto the satellite without the most recent updates installed into the modem as the SBC file gives the modem the most recent satellite selections, frequencies, etc. for connecting to the satellite.
By the way… this procedure should only be done by a HughesNet Certified Installer. We are not responsible for any damage to your equipment that may result from this procedure!
You may want to perform a factory reset on your modem prior to installing this file, however it shouldn’t be necessary!

This is the procedure for updating the SBC file in a HughesNet Ku band modem:
1. If you do not have the current SBC file, you can download the file from our web site at www.montanasatellite.com under the HughesNet Downloads section.
2. Open the .zip file by double-clicking on the file and saving it to your desktop or other recognizable location on your computer.
3. Open a browser and enter http://192.168.0.1/fs/registration/setup.html and scroll down and click the “Config File Upload” link.
4. Browse to the SBC file on your computer and continue. You will get a confirmation message that the upload is complete.
You should now reboot the modem so you can be sure it boots up with the new satellite parameters and information.
