ViaSat / SkyVista satellite Internet systems offer several features with equipment and service that make them stand out in the crowd including:
No Contracts - Most satellite Internet service providers require a 1 - 5 year agreement to service. If you cancel your service before the contract is up, huge penalties may apply. SkyVista does not require any monthly service contracts for their ViaSat service, so you can connect and disconnect, downgrade or upgrade your service as you wish, and without charge.
Payment methods - Most satellite Internet service providers require monthly payment via Credit Card Auto-debit. SkyVista will accept monthly, quarterly or annual payment by cash, check, money order or major credit card.
Contention Factor - Many satellite Internet service providers (such as HughesNet) have a 400 to 1 contention factor, which means that up to 400 people are trying to access and share a certain amount of bandwidth. The result is that during busy times, the speeds and capability declines tremendously. SkyVista offers a 100 to 1 contention factor, meaning that only 100 people are trying to access and share that same amount of bandwidth. This results in less delays, faster overall service and better performance even during busy times.
Speeds / Performance - Many satellite Internet service providers (such as HughesNet) talk about maximum speeds, meaning the speeds that they advertise are under optimal conditions during slow times, while SkyVista promotes average speeds, but guarantees 80% of the speeds advertised at all times. The result is that a 500k / 128k plan offered by SkyVista may be faster than HughesNet's 700k / 128k monthly service plan.
Capabilities - Many satellite Internet service providers cannot properly support VoIP (telephone over Internet), VPN (Virtual Private Networking), Remote Desktop, and other applications as well as the ViaSat / SkyVista services can. This is due to both the contention factor mentioned above and the backbone of the system. If you are considering using VoIP or other "bandwidth intense" applications, you will want to consider ViaSat by SkyVista.
U.S.A (English) Support - ViaSat by SkyVista offers 24 / 7 support services out of Wisconsin, U.S.A., unlike other satellite Internet providers that offer support services based overseas.
Equipment - Some satellite Internet service providers offer .74m and even smaller dishes. While this may work well for cosmetic reasons, unfortunately the smaller dishes may not be able to see through the rain showers and snowfalls as well as the larger dishes. SkyVista's smallest dish is a 1.0m which offers greater reliability than the smaller dishes. SkyVista also uses a modem and radio (a.k.a. BUC, Outdoor Unit, Transmitter) that is capable of increasing wattage during adverse weather conditions to offer smoother operation and performance continuously... unlike other systems.
Static IP Addresses - SkyVista offers a static IP address with every system and service. Additional IP addresses are available... sold separately!
