We get asked a lot of questions from people checking into purchasing our VAR Business Internet systems for use in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands!
This page was designed to answer some of those questions!
Q: Why are we just now hearing about Montana Satellite in Puerto Rico?
A: We have been providing Internet access to Puerto Rico via the HughesNet and iDirect platforms for over 10 years!
A: The HughesNet Gen5 beams/coverage just opened up to us in April of this year… it wasn’t available for us to offer in PR until June or July of this year!
A: We’ve never actually paid for targeted advertising in that area until now, and only because we realize there is a huge demand for an internet access solution that can be quickly deployed to get people and businesses back online after the hurricanes affected the area!
Q: Are you related to the company in Whitefish who was restoring our power?
A: NO, we are not related at all and we have been providing internet access via satellite to PR and the Virgin Islands for over 10 years via the HughesNet HN7000s systems and DirecWay DW7000 and DW6000 systems before that!
Q: Why is this service more than the HughesNet Consumer and Business Internet offerings?
A: We are a “value-added reseller dealer” which means that we provide additional services and features with our equipment and services than what HughesNet offers!
A: We allow our customers to self-install, move around and maintain their own systems which often require an advanced level of support that HughesNet themselves do not offer!
A: We offer 13 differing bandwidth plans and packages, while HughesNet Business Internet offers only a few!
A: We offer the HughesNet Consumer and Business Internet Systems and Services as well! Contact us to order today!
Q: Can I lease VAR Equipment?
A: No, we do not offer any equipment leasing, however you might be able to find a 3rd party who will assist you with that!
Q: Is there a contract/commitment required for service?
A: Yes, there is a 2-Year contract/commitment required for our services! You can suspend service for up to 5-months per year at a cost of $20 per month!
A: Yes, however, we offer you the option of paying the $400 early termination fee up-front if you wish to not be tied to the 2-Year Contract! (Contact us for details!)
Q: Can I suspend the service?
A: Yes, you can suspend the service up to 5-months per year at a cost of $20 per month!
A: Yes, and if you choose to pay the $400 early termination fee, you can suspend your service for up to 5-months, pay 1 full month of service, then suspend it again if you wish!
Q: What happens if I go over my monthly data?
A: You will be slowed to approx. 3mbps x 3mbps speeds until the new billing period!
A: You can choose to purchase more data at full speed per the gigabyte however it could take a day or two to restore your speeds:
(These prices are subject to change without notice!)
1 GB = $3.00
2 GB = $6.00
3 GB = $9.00
5 GB = $15.00
10 GB = $30.00
20 GB = $60.00
25 GB = $75.00
30 GB = $90.00
40 GB = $120.00
50 GB = $150.00
Q: How easy is it to assemble and self-install the equipment?
A: We have instructions and videos to assist you with that process and we are here to assist you if you get stuck during that process! The first time you assemble it and set it up and point it is a learning experience that could take you an hour or two! After you do it a few times, it should only take you 15 – 20 minutes to get it set up and online if you happen to be moving the system around!
Q: What tools will I need for assembly and installation?
A: Basic tools include
a bubble level
7/16″ wrench or two
1/2″ wrench or two
A: Additional tools that may be required include:
1/2″ deep-well socket w/ratchet
3mm hex (allen) wrench
A: We offer a set of the above-mentioned tools of very good quality in a neat little kit for $89.95.
A: You will also need a GPS or GPS app on your smartphone or tablet to determine your latitude and longitude!
Q: What type of cable/coax does this system use?
A: This system requires a single run of RG6 3.0ghz (high-frequency) coaxial cable and related fittings!
A: Our portable kits come with 50′ of cable with the fittings attached or you can order up to 120′ if necessary!
Q: Do I need a wireless router?
A: No, the HT2000W has built-in dual-band A/C wireless and a 4-port hub, however, you can still use your existing router if you wish to do so!
Q: Does this system work for VoIP?
A: We hope to offer VoIP services that will work OK over this system within the next few months!
A: Skype, Magic Jack, and Basic Talk seem to work OK over this system, however, we do not recommend it for anything other than calling family and friends!
A: If you require VoIP for a business application, you should consider our iDirect platform instead, as it currently offers better quality VoIP with less delay!
Q: Does this system work with a VPN?
A: This system will work with some VPN’s but not others! Even if it does work, it will be very slow as it’s simply not designed for that type of use!
A: If you require VPN, you should consider our iDirect platform for that as it typically works better for VPN applications!
Q: Are Static IP’s available?
A: Not right now, but hopefully coming soon… hopefully, December 2017!
Q: How many users/devices will the system and service support?
A: HughesNet equipment and services are designed to support 2 – 3 concurrent users/devices! Anything more than that will start slowing down your service significantly! Even our largest Business Internet plans are recommended for up to 10 users/devices! If you need to support more than 5 – 10 users/devices, you should check into installing additional systems or check out our iDirect platform and plans!
Q: Why should I order HughesNet Equipment and Services from Montana Satellite?
A: We offer HughesNet Consumer, HughesNet Business Internet, and our HughesNet VAR Business Internet platform? Let us help you to decide which one is best for you!
A: We offer HughesNet, Exede, ViaSat, iDirect and other satellite Internet solutions! Maybe HughesNet isn’t right for you? If not, we can still help you find the best solution!
A: We have been offering and supporting HughesNet (formerly DirecWay) services for almost 20 years now!
A: When you call us, you get to talk with a certified installer for support rather than a customer service representative who’s reading off of a screen!
A: We offer the best support available for HughesNet! We can make ourselves available 24/7 (when necessary) to assist you with installation, setup or troubleshooting!
A: We offer support via phone, email, Skype, text, online chat and other methods!

Q: Do I need to contact HughesNet for service or support?
A: No, HughesNet wants nothing to do with selling to or supporting the self-installation or portable markets! Your system and service is supported by us, Montana Satellite and our VAR Service provider!
Q: Do you offer email services?
A: No, our VAR Business Internet platform does not offer email accounts or services! We recommend Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo or another third-party provider!
A: Yes, the HughesNet Consumer and Business Internet Platforms offer email services, but we do not recommend using them for your primary email accounts!
